Gas Powered Race Events

8th & 10th Scale On-Road

Thanks for all your support and participation, especially our club members – Thanks for your support.

Members, I need you to help me encourage and thank Mr. Sunny Hee for his 2006 efforts and solicit his continued support for our 2007 calendar.

The planned dates are: February 4th, April 1st, June 3rd, August 5th & October 7th

Sunny and I are planning some minor track modifications as a continual upgrade to keep the racing line interesting. Sunny may need some volunteers to help him, so if there are any kind souls out there, please contact Mr Sunny Hee.

8th Scale Off-Road

We are in progress of planning with iRacingWerkz. Present tentative plans were to hold the April Challenge 1 event at their facility. iRacingWerkz are also in the preliminary stage of planning for an Open Invitational event in August to prepare everyone for the October FEMCA in Thailand.

The current draft idea is to have the April Challenge 1 as a compulsory event and in addition the best 3 results of iRacingWerkz’s February, March, May, June & July to tabulate a ranking list for valid RCMC members ONLY. This ranking list shall be used when there area entry number restrictions to upcoming FEMCA / iFMAR events.

Electric Powered Events

I have not got around planning this one out for 2007 yet. I’ll keep you all posted once I got around to it.

RaceCraft Infinity has got a series calendar going for 10th Scale ISTC Open class in 2007. At present this is being held in conjunction with the Stargek’s Tamiya series.

iRacingWerkz is looking into the possibility of an EP Off-Road facility, which is great news for all hobbyists. So, like I said, I need a bit more time to work the EP side of things out, and then I’ll keep you informed.

2006 Singapore Invitational Challenge

The 2006 Singapore Invitational Challenge 2

1/8th IC and 1/10th ISTC 200mm GP Touring

I had a great time at this event, tiring, but still it was great. Thanks to our Guest-of-Honour, Dr. Muhammad Faishal Bin Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC, for taking valuable time off his busy schedule to grace our event.

We had around 90+ entries for this event. Both the 8th and 10th Scale Main Finals were closely fought, right up to the very last minute. Those who were there would testify to it.

In the 8th scale, we have a tooth and nail fight to the last minute between our local hobbyists, Mr. Nelson Lee on a Mugen against Thailand’s Mr. Suruth’s Serpent. Mr. S. P. Lee (one of Singapore’s RC pioneers) was ecstatic when their tire change strategy paid off by a mere car length win over Mr. Suruth. The excitement of the last 10 minutes was explosive enough to keep our G.O.H. off his seat, stretching on his toes for a better view of the battle on the track. Malaysia’s Mr. Desmond Lam was the second runner-up in his Motonica.

The 10th scale was equally exciting with tussle to the last minute between our local hobbyists, Mr. Philip Lee (Sirio powered Kyosho) and Indonesia’s Mr. Teddy Syach (JP powered TM). Indonesian Mr. Erwin Luhur was the second runner-up in his OS powered Kyosho.

The 2006 Singapore HPI Invitational Challenge 3

1/10th ISTC 190mm EP Touring

The event was encouraging, although the participation rate could have been better. The competition was keen, with two strong entries from Australia, Mr. Simon Feigl (HPI driver) and Mr. Jake Zarb (using and Xray).

Local hoyyists, Mr. Alvin Koh (TQ & Champion) took it in his stride with his near perfect runs in heats and finals. The runner-up is Malaysia’s Mr. Ong Chee Yong was equally impressive with his cool, consistent and fast driving skills. Both Alvin & Chee Yong used a Novak powered Tamiya. The second runner-up is Mr. Nicholas Lee on his TC4. And HPI’s Mr. Ishikawa felt that Nicholas show good potential.

iFMAR / FEMCA events

1st to 8th July 2006 was the 2006 iFMAR World Championship for 1/10th 190mm EP Touring cars in Collegno, Italy – Our member, Mr. Nicholas Lee finished a respectable 47th position our of a total entry of 146 drivers.

28th August to 3rd September 2006 was the 2006 iFMAR World Championship for 1/8th GP Buggy in Ancol. Mr. Mark Pavidis won the Championship, but Indonesia is the Champion to have organize a very well run event.

7th September 2006 to 16th September 2006 was the 2006 iFMAR World Championship for 1/10th 200mm On-Road in Brisbane, Australia. Mr. Kelvin Yong finished 56th, Mr. Benjamin Seet finished 60th, Mr. Erwin Luhur was 72nd and Mr. Nicholas Kuan was 107th. There were a total of 123 entries.

MARINE PARADE RADIO CONTROL MODELLERS CLUB
JUNE 2006
NEWS IN BRIEF

Top 4 qualifiers of the 10th scale, Iwamoto, Bertin,
Tanaka & CH Tay. Below Left: Team Singapore.
Below Right: The new Team Magic 10th scale.
Hello fellow members of the Marine Parade RCMC. How have you been doing? Work is catching up on me so this issue a little later than usual. Highlights for this issue would be the following:

2006 Singapore Invitational Challenge 2 – Gas Powered on road on 29th & 30th July 2006.

2006 iFMAR World Championship 1/8th Gas Powered Buggy – We have one more seat, if you are interested; remember to check out the details.

Following up on the feedback from our cleaner auntie, I had wind that the person who was wee wee~ing at the rear of our driver stand is not our member. He is an elderly gentleman who comes by in his 8th scale on a motorbike on the early morning hours during weekdays. By any chance if you know of this gentleman, the club and all our paid up members would be most appreciated if you could help us counsel him. Thanks in advance.

At the same time, it would really help if members would remember to lock up the gate when they leave the track.

Gas Powered On-Road Race Events
Thanks for all your support and participation at the June 4th event. Mr. Sunny Hee is the Race Director and Mr. Eddie Lee is the Official Time Keeper at Race Control.
The minor track modifications have been completed, Mr Sunny Hee may need some volunteers to help him re-paint the yellow track side line. So if there are any kind souls out there, please contact Mr Sunny Hee.

Electric Powered On-Road Race Events
There had been some changes in the management of events. You may want to contact Stargek for any clarifications on the remaining runs of this event.

Electric Powered Off-road eventsIt seems that after much effort, the organizers got the event off the ground. However, the weather was not agreeable to the arrangement and the heavy downpour mars the commendable efforts of all the volunteers. Do keep watch on upcoming announcements; we would hope to see this get off the ground. And hopefully there would be enough interests generated for the 2007 iFMAR World Championships that would be scheduled to be in Japan.

If you need further details please contact either Hobbylink or iHobby – proprietors of the Turf City facility; RC@Turf.

Mr C. H. Tay is our sole entrant at Taiwan. Tay was swamped with radio problems from the start. Fortunately he was able to get one clean run, with it, he qualified 4th by the end of the heats. The top 4 positions were allowed to sit out the semis, so Tay
got directly into the main finals. In the main final, Tay’s radio problems returned to haunt him and he finally finished 6th overall with 199 laps at 1:00:25.691. A formidable effort by Tay and the final positions were:

MARINE PARADE RADIO CONTROL MODELLERS CLUB MAY 2006
NEWS IN BRIEF

Hello fellow members of the Marine Parade RCMC. How have you been doing? Highlights for the month of April 2006, would be the following

1/8th scale Internal Combustion (IC) gas on road and 1/10th scale International Scale Touring Cars (ISTC) 200mm Gas Powered (GP) cars on 4th June 2006.

And not forgetting the next biggie; our 2006 Singapore Invitational Challenge 2 – Gas Powered on road on 29th & 30th July 2006.

I visited the East Coast Track recently and the cleaner auntie gave me these feedbacks:

a. More and more tables are missing; she found users leaving them next to the gate after use and due to ‘b’ many have been missing. Please help to move the tables back.
b. The gate has not been properly locked after use. Please remember to lock up the gate when you leave.
c. She found a strong urine stench at the rear of the driver stand. She doe not have the resources to clear it.
d. She also found someone pulling a plastic dustbin to the back of the driver stand and urinated into it.

Members please help us to maintain at least the minimum level of decency and hygiene at the facility. Ben Seet and Andrew Chin, please support and assist Mr Sunny Hee in maintaining the facility. Thanks in advance.

The first series will start in May 2006. A total of 5 events spanning the months of May, June, July, August and September 2006 shall be used. If all five Top Ten Finalists of the Buggy Challenge
From Top Right: Wenyi, Ah M, Glenn, Andri, Sam, Indra, Joe, Craig, Danny & Lin Hup
events have enough interests; we will use the best 3 of 5 event results. However, we realise that this class does not have a large enough following at the moment. So, we will be prepared to go for 3 best of 4, or 3 best of 3, or 2 best of 2, or 1 best of 1, and finally we really hope that we don’t have to ditch the series.
If you need further details please contact either Hobbylink or iHobby – proprietors of the Turf City facility; RC@Turf.events have enough interests; we will use the best 3 of 5 event results. 2006 Singapore Invitational Challenge 1
1/8th scale gas powered off-road buggy

The event completed successfully. We had great weather on Saturday, 22nd April 2006 and we were able to complete the 3 rounds of heats by 5:00pm. We had a slight delay in the morning over logistics and the Saturday early bird draw of HN tires (4 tire sets with rims), sponsored by HMW Hobbies Trading, was won by:
Pason Phua, Yap. Ben Seet, Jason Long, James, Razif, Pegan Teo, Faizal, Adrian Wong and Izam Sallim

On day 2, Sunday, 23rd April 2006, we manage to finish off round 4 of the heats with great weather. However, while we were sorting the results for the finals, the sky opened up and the timetable got delayed by about 2.5 hours. We make up for lost time, we reduce the sub-final duration from the original 20 minutes to 15 minutes and we were finally able to finish off by 6:15pm with a 35 minute Truck Final and a 45 minute Buggy Main Final.

We had guests from Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia. Guests from Thailand and Taiwan were not able to make it at the eleventh hour.
The Sunday early bird draw of a pair of Proline tires, sponsored by Toykar, was won by:
Glenn Phuah, Craig Laughton, Razif, Norhakim, Syaaf, Sam Cheng, Danny Teh, Rashid, Lui Man Yat aka Wenyi, and Alvin Goh

The top positions of the Truck event were:
First: Mr. Andri Hartanto of Indonesia
Second: Mr. Craig Laughton of Australia
Third: Mr. Yeo Seong Leng (Ah Leng) of Singapore

The truck event was closely fought amongst the top two positions, Andri and Craig. Andri drove a near flawless race, although Craig clearly had a faster truck. All this while, Ah Leng was trailing nicely behind the two front runners in the final race. Let’s hope that this event would generate more interest in gas powered trucks for future events.

The top positions of the Buggy event were:
Position: Driver Car Engine Country
1st: Glenn Phuah Xray RB Singapore
2nd: Goh (Ah M) HN STS Singapore
3rd: Andri Hartanto Sacker OS Indonesia

The Top Qualifier from the qualifying heats is none other than our very own Glenn Phuah.
Position: Driver Car Engine Country
4th: Sam Cheng Xray RB Singapore
5th: Danny Teh Mugen STS Malaysia
6th: Lui Man Yat (Wenyi) HN RB Singapore
7th: Lim Lin Hup GS RB Singapore
8th: Indra Liono HN - Indonesia
9th: Craig Laughton HB - Australia
10th: Joe Hwee HB OS Singapore
The Buggy event was very closely fought amongst the top 4 positions. The pit crew grew more and more excited as they race each other and exchange positions periodically. Glenn deserve his win 100%, he drove his XB8TQ more consistently than the rest and was able to stay the course. Our good old Sam Cheng was in 4th and he fought hard, at times we could see him catch right up to the tail of Andri, but luck was not quite blowing his way at this event. It was only up till the 42nd minute that the positions were stabilised and they all finish up nicely. It was a very exciting race; it would be a shame if you had missed it.
If you did miss it, don’t worry, look out for either Mr Sia (Tai Sing) or Mr Kenny Chua, they were our two unofficial videographers on the driver stand throughout both the truck and buggy final. I am sure they will be most happy to show you what they have shot.
In the final lucky draw, the 3 Spektrum T-shirts and the Spektrum DX3 set, sponsored by JPL Racing were won by:
1. Mr Pegan
2. Mr Indra Liono of Indonesia
3. Mr Ryu Goh
Mr Joe Hwee won the DX3 radio set.
HMW Hobbies Trading also managed to help us obtain, from Hong Nor, a Factory Team Pro Kit of the X1CR. This was won by Mr Razif. Who, if you have notice was also the winner of both early bird draw. So the top winner of this event is actually Mr Razif.
Tai Sing Corporation (Pte) Ltd sponsored two RTR Lightning 10 kits and they were won by:
1. Mr Danny Teh
2. Mr Lui Man Yat (Wenyi)
Well, we are all indeed very grateful to our sponsors for their generosity. And we must also not forget the other sponsors, Mr Danny Teh, Mr Syaaf for the 10 cartons of drinking water and Mr Chai Kok Chin (HPC) for the packs of exhaust silicon gaskets that were given out to all participants.
The 2006 Singapore Invitational Challenge 2
1/8th IC and 1/10th ISTC 200mm GP Touring

Similar to the Challenge 1 event; registration fee of $55 is required for valid registrations. All unpaid registrations shall be automatically invalidated. Not forgetting everyone else who has or will be helping us out in one way or another.

Hello fellow members of the Marine Parade RCMC. How have you been doing? Highlights for the month of April 2006, would be the following

· 1/8th scale Internal Combustion (IC) gas on road and 1/10th scale International Scale Touring Cars (ISTC) 200mm Gas Powered (GP) cars on 16th April 2006.

· And not forgetting the biggie; our 2006 Singapore Invitational Challenge 1 – 1/8th scale off-road GP Buggy and GP Trucks on 22nd & 23rd April 2006.

Gas Powered On-Road Race Events

We have received entries steadily at rctech.net for the April 16th race. Thanks for all your support and participation and if you have not registered for this 1/8th & 1/10th event, please do so soonest possible. Mr. Sunny Hee is the Race Director and Mr. Eddie Lee is the Official Time Keeper at Race Control.

The last I check the entries in rctech.net, the 1/8th registrant list was much longer than the 1/10th event. So does that mean the 1/10th 200mm Touring GP cars are on the decline? Your guess might be better than mine, as I have not been very active in this area.
Mr Sunny Hee has been making arrangements for some track modifications with plenty of support from Ben Seet and Andrew Chin side – Thanks guys, your support is very much appreciated. So members, let’s look forward to the modifications.
Electric Powered On-Road Race Events

Due to my full time work schedule I have not had the time to check up on the results for the 12th March 2006 event. I’ll do so soonest and probably report on it the next month.
The next race is confirmed and will be on 9th April 2006 at Racecraft Infinity’s track facility in Jalan Penjara. The remaining proposed dates are 14th May, 11th June & 13th August 2006.
If you do not have access to the Internet, please contact Stargek for the details.
Electric Powered Off-road events

We have had extended discussions with our friendly organizers of the electric off road events at Turf City. The club will use their open event results as a club series. The organizers have kindly acceded to the club’s request.

The point table for members, with valid memberships from May 2006, shall be collated for the seat allocation of the 2007 iFMAR World Championship for 1/10th scale Electric Buggies in Japan.

The series will start in May 2006. A total of 5 events spanning the months of May, June, July, August and September 2006 shall be used. If all five events have enough interests, we will use the best 3 of 5 event results. However, we realise that this class does not have a large enough following at the moment. So, we will be prepared to go for 3 best of 4, or 3 best of 3, or 2 best of 2, or 1 best of 1, and finally we really hope that we don’t have to ditch the series.

If you need further details please contact either Hobbylink or iHobby – proprietors of the Turf City facility; RC@Turf.

Gas Powered On-Road Race Events

The January 1st gas powered on road event was cancelled due to clement weather. I must thank the volunteers who turn up and also the twenty odd drivers who were eager to race. Unfortunately it was still raining at 11 am and we have to cancel it. The next one would be on 5th February 2006, please register early and we look forward to your continued support and participation.

This February 5th event will constitute to the 1/10th GP on road series we started in November 2005. The December 2005 event was cancelled due to the National Marathon which closed off access to the track. January 2006 was rained out. Therefore we now only have 2 events in the series, assuming and hoping that we will have a great race on 5th February. Although we agree that we should have at least one more event and the best would be to
have it in March 2006, but all the Sundays in March 2006 are fully occupied by various events. We will work out an amicable solution and if you have any ideas do let us know.
Electric Powered On-Road Race Events
